WhatsApp AI Assistant for Businesses in the UAE: A Practical 2026 Guide
7 October 2026 · 6 min read
A WhatsApp AI assistant for businesses in the UAE is no longer just for large companies. In Abu Dhabi and Dubai, many customers first reach a restaurant, salon, or real-estate office with a WhatsApp message — often in the evening or at the weekend, when nobody is free to reply. This guide explains what an AI assistant does for a small or mid-sized UAE business, what you need to start, and how Meta’s fees work.
What does a WhatsApp AI assistant actually do?
- Answers your customers around the clock using only your business information: prices, menu or services, opening hours, policies, and FAQs.
- Books and cancels appointments in your calendar, and takes orders with product options after checking stock.
- Understands voice notes and images, and merges a customer’s burst of messages into one clear reply.
- Hands the chat to someone on your team when it doesn’t know the answer or the customer asks for a person.
Three scenes from the UAE market
A restaurant in Abu Dhabi, 11 pm: “Salam, do you deliver now? How much is mandi for two?” The assistant answers with the price from your menu and the delivery options and fees you set, then records the order with any extras and gives the customer a tracking code.
A salon in Dubai: “I want a haircut and colour tomorrow afternoon — any slots?” The assistant offers the times genuinely open in your calendar, confirms the appointment in the chat, and the booking shows up in your dashboard.
A real-estate office: “Is the flat in the ad still available? What’s the annual rent, and in how many cheques?” The assistant answers from the property details you uploaded, books a viewing, and if the customer wants to negotiate the price, it hands the chat to one of your staff.
It speaks your customers’ dialect
The assistant replies in Modern Standard Arabic, Gulf Arabic, or English, and you can let it match each customer’s language and dialect automatically. That matters in the UAE, where an Emirati customer, a Saudi customer, and an English-speaking one may all message you on the same day. It also understands Levantine and Egyptian Arabic.
Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app?
Yes, if your number is on the WhatsApp Business app and Meta supports its Coexistence option for your number: you connect the number to the assistant and the app stays on your phone. Wakeel supports Coexistence. When you want to answer a particular chat yourself, pause the assistant for that chat in the dashboard so the customer doesn’t get two replies.
What you need to start
- A WhatsApp number for your business — ideally on the WhatsApp Business app if you want to keep using the app.
- A Facebook account to sign in to Meta’s window and pick or create your WhatsApp Business account.
- A payment method (card) in WhatsApp Manager, because Meta bills message fees directly.
- Your business information: menu or services, prices, opening hours, location, and policies.
- A Wakeel account. The free trial (5 days or 50 replies, no card) starts once your WhatsApp number is connected.
Connecting takes a few minutes through Meta’s official sign-up window. Meta may later ask you to verify your business to raise your sending limits.
Meta’s fees, simply
Since 1 October 2026, Meta charges for every message your business sends on the WhatsApp Business Platform, including customer-service replies. In the UAE one reply costs roughly AED 0.06, so 1,000 replies come to about AED 58. You pay these fees to Meta directly from your own account, not to Wakeel, and they change from time to time — check Meta’s current rate card.
More detail and AED examples are in “WhatsApp Business API Cost in the UAE (2026, in AED)”.
Tip: Click-to-WhatsApp ads
When a customer starts the chat from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or the WhatsApp button on your Facebook Page, messages stay free for 72 hours. If you already advertise on Meta, point the ad to WhatsApp and let the assistant reply instantly: the lead doesn’t go cold, and you pay no Meta message fees during that window (the ad itself is a separate cost).
