WhatsApp Business API Cost in the UAE (2026, in AED)

7 October 2026 · 7 min read

What does WhatsApp Business API cost in the UAE in 2026? The answer changed this autumn: since 1 October 2026, Meta charges for every customer-service reply your business sends, where those replies used to be free. This article explains the cost in dirhams with simple examples, shows when messages are still free, and how to keep the bill down.

What exactly changed?

  • Since 1 July 2025, Meta charges per message rather than per conversation.
  • Since 1 October 2026, every regular (non-template) message your business sends in a chat — that is, every reply to a customer — carries a fee, at the same rate as utility messages for the customer’s country, with no volume discounts.
  • Marketing template messages cost more than customer-service replies.
  • The exception: messages in the 72 hours after a customer starts a chat from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or your Facebook Page’s WhatsApp button stay free.
  • Meta bills your business’s own WhatsApp account directly, through the payment method in WhatsApp Manager.

Approximate rates in the UAE

These are approximate September 2026 figures from the Meta fee table published by Twilio. Rates are in US dollars; we converted them to dirhams at about AED 3.67 per dollar:

  • Customer-service reply or utility message: about USD 0.0157 — roughly AED 0.06 per message.
  • Marketing template message: about USD 0.0576 — roughly AED 0.21 per message.

If the customer messages you from a number in another country, that country’s rate applies — a service reply to a Saudi number, for example, is about USD 0.0107.

Examples in AED

  • 1,000 customer-service replies a month: about AED 58.
  • A restaurant answering 30 customers a day, two replies each: about 1,800 replies a month — roughly AED 104.
  • 500 marketing messages for a weekend offer: about AED 106.
  • Chats started from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad: replies in the first 72 hours carry no Meta message fee.

These are Meta’s fees only, plus any taxes Meta applies. Rates change, so always check Meta’s official rate card in the WhatsApp Business Platform documentation before you set a budget.

How to keep costs down

  • One combined reply instead of several messages: every message your business sends now costs money, so choose an assistant that merges a customer’s burst of messages and answers once. Wakeel does this automatically.
  • Click-to-WhatsApp ads: if you already advertise on Meta, point the ad to WhatsApp to use the free 72-hour window, and let the assistant reply instantly.
  • Templates only when needed: within 24 hours of the customer’s last message you can reply with a regular message; after that you need an approved template. Send marketing templates to people who care about the offer, not to your whole list.
  • Complete information from day one: the clearer your prices, hours, and policies are in the assistant’s information, the more often it answers first time, with less back-and-forth.
  • Watch your usage: check message counts and cost in WhatsApp Manager every month.

WhatsApp Business app or API?

  • WhatsApp Business app: free, but built for replying by hand from a phone with fixed quick replies — no AI assistant, no calendar or stock connection.
  • WhatsApp Business Platform (API): a fee for each message your business sends, in exchange for smart 24/7 automated replies, booking and orders, and a whole team on one number.
  • Both together: Meta’s Coexistence option — where Meta supports it for your number — lets you keep using the app on the same number while the assistant replies through the API.

And the Wakeel subscription?

The Wakeel subscription is separate from Meta’s fees: you pay the subscription to Wakeel, and you pay message fees to Meta directly at Meta’s rate, with no markup from us. Meta’s fees apply to replies even during the free trial, because they are charged to your own Meta account. Current plans and prices are on the pricing page.

Try Wakeel free for 5 days or 50 replies, no card required — the trial starts once your WhatsApp number is connected.
